Meet the designers

Mobital

Mobital is the sharper end of modern: stone, metal and glass in pieces that are meant to be looked at. Where solid timber is warm and forgiving, this is cool and graphic, and it suits a room that wants one object to carry it.

Stone is the material doing the work. A marble or travertine top brings something into a room that no manufactured surface imitates convincingly, partly because the veining is never twice the same. The slab that arrives will not match the catalogue photograph exactly, and that is the argument for it rather than against. Alongside it, blackened and brushed metal bases, smoked glass, and upholstery in bouclé and performance weaves.

The range runs across dining, living and bedroom, which makes it useful for a whole room rather than one gesture. Dining chairs in the upholstered ranges are the ones to choose if your table is where people linger; the moulded and metal designs trade some comfort for a lighter look and are easier to move.

Stone asks for a little discipline. Blot wine, citrus and oil straight away, use coasters, and treat the surface once or twice a year with a sealer, because acid etches the polish rather than staining the stone. Done, that is five minutes a year. The questions below cover stone care, assembly and slab variation.
