Natural variations in solid wood and hand-applied finishes make each piece unique. Slight grain and finish irregularities as well as subtle differences in stain shades are signs that the furniture has been crafted from solid wood and are considered hallmarks of quality.

Finely crafted using time-tested joinery and construction methods, lumber is selected, sanded and assembled by hand to ensure that all the joinery is clean, flush, and smooth to the touch.

Multiple coats of silky smooth varnish is applied and sanded by hand to provide lasting protection that is resistant to stains, moisture rings, heat damage and abrasions.

Catalina Trestle Extension Table

Combining the clean, unadorned lines of the International Modernists with organic and geometric forms, the Catalina Collection is suggestive of the works of America's Mid-Century Modern designers.

Catalina Tables are available and a number of different sizes perfect for any dining room configuration. Extension tables incorporate precision bearing glides and a self-storing butterfly leaf for effortless action. The Catalina Dining Room is crafted in solid American black walnut hardwood and Made to Order in natural finish. The Catalina Dining Room is also crafted in solid cherry with several finish options. Walnut dining items are finished with a low sheen (10 sheen) top coat. The finish is GREENGUARD Certified for low chemical emissions.

Meet the designers

Copeland Furniture

Copeland mills and finishes its own furniture in Bradford, Vermont, from North American hardwood. Owning the factory is unusual at this price, and it shows up in ways that matter: pieces made to order rather than to a container schedule, alternative woods and dimensions on request, and lead times measured in weeks.

The woods are the choice worth slowing down for. Cherry arrives pale and keeps darkening for years, so the piece you own at ten is richer than the sample you chose from. Walnut starts dark and lightens very slightly. Maple stays pale and shows the cleanest lines of the three. Oak sits between. None of these are stains; the colour is the tree, which is why it keeps moving after delivery.

The design language is quiet American modern: tapered legs, visible joinery, nothing applied for effect. It reads as calm in a bedroom and holds its own in a dining room. Finishes are low-VOC and water-based, which matters most in the room where you sleep, and they resist marking well in daily use.

Buy a pair of anything at the same time rather than a year apart, because solid timber continues to change colour with light exposure and two cherry nightstands will only age together if they start together. The questions below cover the woods, the finish and made-to-order options.
