Sakiori Tabletop Placemat
With its finely striped bands of varying widths and tones, this graphic design is a printed interpretation of the Japanese tradition of weaving scraps of old fabrics into sakiori textiles, from the word saku (to tear or rip) and oru (to weave). The Chilewich design team looked to antique sakiori textiles for inspiration and reimagined their intricate weave structures and lively lines in two dimensions with ink and paint.
