Greenington has been building furniture from Moso bamboo since 2004, and the case for it is straightforward once you have touched a piece. Laminated into solid boards, bamboo tests harder than red oak. It takes a knock, holds a screw, and can be sanded and refinished like any dense hardwood.

What is different is where it comes from. Moso reaches harvest height in about five years against decades for hardwood, and it regrows from the same root system rather than needing replanting. The adhesives are formaldehyde-free and the finishes low-VOC, which matters most in the bedroom furniture that makes up much of the range.

The finishes are not stains in the usual sense. Caramelized is the bamboo steamed until the sugars in the fibre darken to a warm honey, so the colour is inside the material and will not wear off a drawer edge or a footrest. Darker finishes are worked over that base. The grain reads as fine, even lines rather than open figure, which gives the furniture a calm, uniform surface that sits quietly in a room.

Treat it as fine hardwood: dust dry, wipe spills, keep it out of long direct sun. Bamboo responds to humidity, so a very dry winter room can open small seasonal gaps that close again in summer. The questions below cover strength, the finishes and care.
