What Do the Cushion Grades Mean?

Mamagreen prices a cushion by the cloth on it, and the grades run A Performance, B Signature, C Sailcloth, D Ottoman and E Luxury. Every one of them is woven from solution-dyed acrylic, so the colour goes into the fibre before it is spun rather than being printed on afterwards, which is why a Mamagreen cushion holds its tone through a summer that would bleach a printed fabric pale. The grade changes the hand and the price, not whether the cloth belongs outside. Grade E is where the boucles and velours live, for a terrace that is really an outdoor room.

Should I Choose Waterproof or Water-Repellent Covers?

Both sit over a Quickdry foam core, and the difference is how they stop water reaching it. A waterproof cover carries a laminated backing that blocks moisture outright, at the cost of a little breathability, and Mamagreen is candid that it can feel close on a hot day. A water-repellent cover turns away most water rather than all of it and breathes through an inner barrier instead, which is the more comfortable seat to sit on for an afternoon. Choose waterproof for a cushion that lives uncovered beside a pool, water-repellent for one on a sheltered terrace.

How Hard-Wearing Are the Fabrics?

Measurably so, and the numbers are published rather than implied. Across the grades the fabrics run from 18,000 to 60,000 Martindale cycles, and from 36,000 to 85,000 Wyzenbeek double rubs. For scale, general contract use asks for 30,000 Martindale or 15,000 double rubs, so a great deal of this range is specified well past what a restaurant terrace demands. Sailcloth in Grade C is the toughest at 85,000 double rubs, and Ottoman in Grade D reaches 60,000 Martindale cycles.

What Are the Frames and Tops Made Of?

Plantation teak, smooth sanded, is the signature, usually paired with powder-coated aluminium or with 316 stainless steel in a mirror finish on the pieces meant for salt air. Tabletops come in teak, in HPL and in sintered stone, and the choice changes the weight more than you might expect: the same Meika round table is 165 lbs with a teak top and 179 lbs with HPL. Seats are either cushioned or woven, with sling, rope, fibre and braided webbing all used across the collections.

Which Colours Stay Looking Clean?

Mamagreen's own advice is worth repeating. Two-tone colours hide dust and marks far better than a solid white, which shows everything a garden can throw at it. The flatter, non-tactile weaves dry faster after rain and need less cleaning than the deep textured ones. And if a cushion is going to live hard, a second set of covers in another colour is the cheapest way to make a terrace look new again.
